Deb Casey - Silver Dust Australian Cattle Dogs Deb Casey is the owner of Australian Cattle Dog . Com, so she has volunteered to appear as the first featured breeder. Deb has owned ACDs since the early 1980’s. But,, she is not new to the business of breeding or the dog fancy as she began training her first dog when she was a very young child. Through the years she has owned several breeds including a Bouvier Des Flanders, Belgian Sheepdog, Schipperke, German Shepherd, Australian Shepherds, and Dobermans. Most of her experience as breeder comes from breeding Doberman Pinchers. Schutzhund and competition obedience captured Deb's attention for a number of years as she actively titled her dogs often with high scores including a number of High In Trials. She has also worked as a veterinary technician and trained/trialed Rottweilers in obedience for a top breeding kennel. Currently, Deb lives in Dallas, Texas where she is the sole information technology specialist for a well-established firm. As an ACD breeder, Deb has bred very few litters - only 7 to date. Of these litters she has bred 8 Champions of record and some of those hold obedience, herding, and agility titles as well as some working in SAR, therapy and tracking. The SilverDust kennel name comes from the silver-like coat color of Deb's first ACDs who were always covered with dust from the well traveled road along side of her original location. Remarkably, Deb has only a very few dogs at a time and they ALL are house dogs. She stresses the importance of training and socializing puppies so they become pleasant lifetime companions. Deb has a fine family of very happy, caring homes for her puppies. Deb's dogs are featured throughout this site; however, these four need special recognition having made a large contribution to Deb and her continued interest in the breed.
Smoke was the first "cool" ACD in Deb's life. He came from Helen and John Blankers at Silver Hills in Minnesota. At the tender age of 6 months he qualified for a tracking title. Realizing his potential and her limited ability to get enough time off work to do justice to training and showing Smoke at that time, Deb sold Smoke to Kim Eberley who later sold Smoke to Gina McDonnell, Maitlands Kennel in Canada. Smoke went on to take numerous Canadian Best in Specialty wins, Best Opposite at the ACDCA Nationals and received his Junior Herding dog title at the age of 10 with Gina. He is also Sydni's sire forming the foundation for SilverDust.
Ch. Maitlands Rio Bravo, CD, HSAs, CGC, JHD, VQW, ROM "Taz"
Sydni became a veteran this June when she turned 7. She was the #1 ACD Bitch in US and Canada through the "All Systems" ranking in 1998. Deb and Gina bred Syd 3 times: Preacher, Ch. Kurpas Fire N’ Brimstone, who is Reggie's daddy, BISS, AOM CH Yarrabee;s Watch Wizzard Win CD HS "Wizzard" who is sire of Glory, Meri, and Nicki who are all finished Champions of Record and Clay who is major pointed. (Nicki has just whelped her first litter after spending the last year attaining her HS. She is also to debut in the obedience ring this fall on her way to her own ROM title.) and Sydni’s last litter is out of Taz whose litter is just now hitting its stride in competition and breed ring. Sydni is living in Alaska where she helps with the stock chores, does a little agility and obedience, and keeps the younger dogs in line.
By now his face should be familiar. This, of course is a photo of Reggie as a 9 month old. He is now 4 years old and looks very much like his parents Sydni and Preacher. Deb favors Reggie not only for his handsome appearance; but, he is simply a "cool dog". Reggie loves to play fetch and has been known to bring Deb a wide variety of items to toss for him to retrieve. He rewrote the rule book at SilverDust and makes sure all the pups are well-versed, Reggie's most famous escapades include bringing a running lawn sprinkler through the dog door into the new house, depositing a stick laden with fire ants on Deb's bed and depositing a dead squirrel on the bed for a late night game of fetch. Due to an injury Reggie was not able to be finished, he stands with 9 points, 2 major Best of Breed wins at 9 mos of age. A real character at heart, he will always be at Deb’s side and in her heart, and one of those “ Once in a Life Time “ dogs. And, then there is.......
Butter finished her AKC championship at age 12 mos, 5 days in Bryan, Texas on March, 28. CH SilverDust Real Butter.
Crystal is enjoying her teenage years in the land of the midnight sun. She is a very active dog with aptitude for herding, agility, and trouble. Crystal took 4th in her 12-18 month class at ACDCA Nationals in Brooksville, Florida. She took 2nd in sweepstakes. In July 2003, Crystal picked up her first points by taking a 5 point major at the Kenai Kennel Club Show in Kenai, Alaska. She also won her class the second day as well. Crystal plans to meet her new housemate, Butter, at nationals in October.
Ch Maitlands SilverDust Nikola "Nicki" NIcki is the shining star at SilverDust this year. She whelped her first litter in March - 7 beautiful, healthy puppies who are all placed in loving homes. Nicki earned her HS last year under the care and instruction of Lynn Leach and Cappy Pruitt. She took two High in Trial wins as well as placements for each leg. Not a dog to be idle for long, Nicki is soon to debut in the obedience ring to earn her CD. After earning her CH with back to back 5 point majors and her HS with such remarkable scores, we expect great things from her obedience performances. Nicki is a sweet dog who "fits in" everywhere she goes.
